Male PMS

I have discovered that women have nothing over men when it comes to irritability, stress and irrational behavior. Fortunately for my husband, I would like to give him the benefit of the doubt and proclaim him another victim of Male PMS. Today I wish to inform the world at large about Irritable Male Syndrome(IMS). It seems that men also suffer from this sort of menopausal condition.
"Irritable Male Syndrome," that state of hypersensitivity, frustration and anger is now used to describe men who suffer from testosterone deficiency. And while the condition may have been around for ages, the diagnosis suggests that men may be just as vulnerable to the complexities of biology as women. "This is very common," said Dr. Philip Aliotta. "Low levels of testosterone manifest in irritability, depression, weak muscles, loss of self-esteem. Men have no interest in the joys of life. Their libido has dropped. Their interest in intimacy is declining. Sexual function diminishes. Work performance suffers. Oftentimes they are misdiagnosed as being depressed."—Jane Kwiatkowski, "Goodbye, testosterone," The Buffalo News, January 28, 2003
I'd like to say "Oh poor thing", but the truth of the matter is...Get Over It! I don't really believe my husband suffers from this so-called Male PMS, I think he's just having a few bad days. But I'll tell ya...I'm ready to scream! Last night he was justrude to everyone, grumpy (VERY unlike him), and proceeded to proclaim "what's the point of relationships or emotions? We all die in the end and are forgotten anyway". *sigh* I swear I'd ram a stick through his brain (or up another orifice) right now if it would do any good.
This behaviour raised its ugly head while we were painting the house. Yes...we are idiots and painting the whole exterior of the house...by hand. (Don't get me started...I don't understand why we can't use a sprayer?) I'd like to think he's just frustrated because he didn't get as much done as he wanted to yesterday. But I just don't know why he's behaving like a spoiled 4-year-old (or more aptly a hormonal teenager). As a woman who really doesn't suffer from PMS...I'm ready to scream.

Your post made me giggle. I think it is just a boy thing isn't it? They always seem to suffer 'extremes'. They are Extremely laid back, or extremeley cranky, and don't get me started on when they are ill - talk about an extreme!
Still, its pretty typical these days for another medical name to be given to some or other 'sympton' isn't it?
